IMPONIERENDES DEBÜT MIT DEN STUTTGARTER PHILHAMONIKERN – IMPRESSIVE DÉBUT WITH THE STUTTGART PHILHAMONIC

Liederhalle Stuttgart

Christoph König, currently principal conductor in Porto, is said to be candidate for the same position in Stuttgart, and so everybody was looking forward to seeing how he would manage to conduct Bruckner‘s Third Symphony. In one word: impressive.
Such a calmly shaped yet passionate Bruckner full of suspense where counterpoint and side voices beam in equal splendour one can seldom hear from even more famous conductors.
König comprehends Bruckner departing from the compositorial structure. Organically, he develops the motive structures, builds them into big formal blocks, never loosing the overall picture. The orchestra followed him wide awake with round and warm string sound and outstanding solo passages in the winds (French horn solo!). A very promising début.
