DÉBUT WITH THE SÄCHSISCHE STAATSKAPELLE DRESDEN

THIS COMING WEEK SEES CHRISTOPH KÖNIG CONDUCT THE SÄCHSISCHE STAATSKAPELLE IN HIS NATIVE CITY DRESDEN FOR THE FIRST TIME. DIESE WOCHE DIRIGIERT CHRISTOPH KÖNIG ZUM ERSTEN MAL DIE SÄCHSISCHE STAATSKAPELLE IN SEINER HEIMATSTADT DRESDEN.

What looks to be a début could equally interpreted as return visit as Christoph König started his artistic development at the Staatsoper in his native city Dresden as coach/répétiteur, a course typically adopted in the old tradition of Kapellmeister but nowadays less common . The programme features Richard Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll and Hans Werner Henze’s »Richard Wagnersche Klavierlieder« (“Piano Lieder by Richard Wagner”) for large orchestra, choir, mezzosoprano and baritone, an unexpectedly profound, imaginative, and partly humorous rendering of miscellaneous lieder by Wagner, originally set for voice and piano. This programme also reflects on the intimate artistic relationship Henze – who had just died in Dresden in 2012 – enjoyed with the Staatskapelle during many years.
