“After the interval, the public was able to experience an exemplary interpretation of the 4th Symphony of Brahms. The symphony benefited enormously from the classical line-up. The massive sound which normally comes with a symphony orchestra was blown away, and König imposed a very coherent, svelte and almost chamber-music-like interpretation which in addition got its life from an unbelievable inner tension.
The Solistes Européens Luxembourg offered a paragon of dynamism and precision, the sound was – in spite of all transparency – dense and typically “Brahmsian”. König conducted extremely concentrated and expressivly, formed every movement individually, and yet his 100% engagement left enough room for the real climax of the symphony – the last movement – and its even smallest details.
I have myself listened to this oeuvre many times with as many world class orchestras and conductors, but seldom in an interpretation as consistent, expressive , and natural as this evening with the Solistes Européens Luxembourg and Christoph König.”
