SURPRISE CONCERT SURPRISES, NOT SURPRISINGLY

Matthias Seilern • Mar 04, 2015

After a magnificent rendering of the Brahms Double Concerto by Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, nobody in the Philharmonie Luxembourg on Monday evening recognised either composer or composition of the unannounced second half’s symphony. It has become quite a popular tradition now with Christoph König at the helm of the Solistes Européens Luxembourg not to announce the second half of the programme once a year. The public loves to be surprised, and the Philharmonie is usually sold out. This time it was Franz Berwald’s Symphonie Singulière which was received with enthusiasm. See full programme here .
